Too-Sexy Fired Banker Wanted To Be "Tits On A Stick"

Does it matter that Debrahlee Lorenzana, the woman allegedly fired for being too beautiful, once got plastic surgery so she could look more like “tits on a stick?”

In her original Village Voice interview, Lorenzana described her beauty as a burden:

If being less good-looking means being happy and finding love and not being sexually harassed and having a job where no one bothers you and no one questions you because of your looks, then, definitely, I’d want that. I think of that every day.

She also recalls asking the Citibank bosses who constantly criticized her wardrobe, while allegedly ignoring the clothing of other women, “Are you saying that just because I look this way genetically, that this should be a curse for me?”

Now it appears Lorenzana’s looks aren’t entirely genetic. According to Simone Weichselbaum and Jose Martinez of the NY Daily News, a 2003 Discovery Health Channel series documents Lorenzana’s quest for a second breast augmentation to make her look more like “a little Playboy Playmate.” She’d already had a tummy tuck and liposuction in addition to the first breast procedure. On the show, Lorezana said “I love plastic surgery. I think it is the best thing that ever happened,” and “That’s what I want to be: t—- on a stick.”

Lorenzana clearly isn’t the perfect plaintiff — posing for hot photos in the Voice probably wasn’t the best way to help her case either. But ultimately, it doesn’t really matter how she got her body — what matters is whether she was harassed for it. Cheesecake shots aside, the Voice profile painted her as an innocent victim of her own hotness — but even if she tried to make herself more conventionally attractive, she didn’t deserve to be fired for the results. Weichselbaum and Martinez write that “Lorenzana seems to be craving male attention in the Discovery series,” but desiring attention from potential romantic partners isn’t the same as wanting it from coworkers. And just as a short skirt isn’t an excuse for sexual assault, Lorenzana’s implants weren’t justification for discrimination. Whether Lorenzana was actually the victim of appearance bias is a matter for the courts — Citibank denies the allegations — but the way her “tits on a stick” comment might play in the court of public opinion shouldn’t factor into their decision.
