Teresa pled guilty to four counts, including conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bankruptcy fraud. Joe pled guilty to five charges, the same four as Teresa plus failure to file income taxes. He’s facing up to 46 months in prison and deportation. After he completes his sentence, Joe, an Italian citizen, will have to attend a hearing that will “likely result in … your being removed from the United States,” according to Federal Judge Esther Solas who accepted their pleas.
The couple, who were accused of lying to banks and hiding assets, were indicted on 41 counts of bankruptcy, wire and mail fraud and tax charges in July 2013. They will return to court on July 8 for sentencing.
