Naomi Campbell Shares Her Excitement About the Potential for a 'Diverse' British Vogue Under New Editor

British Vogue editor-in-chief Alexandra Schulman stepped down from her post in January, clearing the way for Edward Enninful to take the reins. Naomi Campbell, supermodel and recently-minted contributing editor, took some time out of her busy schedule to point a finger at an issue that she hopes will soon be resolved.

Enninful, who was awarded an OBE for services to diversity in fashion in 2016, will likely bring some of that much-needed change to British Vogue. As stylist for the 2018 Pirelli calendar, he cast a diverse group of black celebrities and models including Campbell, Lupita N’yongo and Lil’ Yachty, in an Alice in Wonderland-themed shoot that is absolutely spectacular to behold.

Under Schulman, as evidenced by the photo Campbell so helpfully provided, the staff of British Vogue was overwhelmingly white. As the Guardian reports, Enninful’s tenure at the magazine began earlier this month. Prior to his start, he made some concerted efforts to diversify what the staff, by adding both Campbell and director Steve McQueen as contributing editor. Pat McGrath, the makeup artist responsible for some of the most incredible runway and editorial looks, is now a beauty editor-at-large.

The Daily Mail reached out to Schulman for comment on Campbell’s post; though she has not responded, this is the latest bit of drama to come surrounding her exit and Enninful’s new role. Last month, the magazine’s former fashion editor did an interview with Vestoj in which she said Enninful had fired her, and talked openly about the work she had done under Schulman’s tenure that she hated. After the piece was published, and got a fair bit of attention, British Vogue’s parent company Condé Nast asked Vestoj to remove parts of the interview.
