Naomi Campbell Opens Couture Week Like a Boss

Latest

Couture week is now underway in Paris. Naomi Campbell opened the week by walking for Versace, eliciting “awed gasps” from front-row guests including Uma Thurman. The most anticipated shows of the week include Schiaparelli — the brand is relaunching after decades of dormancy, and hired Christian Lacroix to do a one-off couture collection — and Viktor & Rolf, who are showing couture for the first time in 13 years. I’m normally told I’m cancelled because I’m ‘coloured’ so being cancelled because off my boobs is a minor : )

One thing we won’t be seeing this couture week, however, is the model Jourdan Dunn at the Christian Dior show. Dior, which has come under scrutiny for its whitewashed show casting under new creative director Raf Simons’ leadership, cut the prominent black model from its show. When designer John Galliano was in charge, Dior shows were some of the most racially diverse in high fashion — but since Simons took over, no black models have walked for Dior. Dunn Tweeted that she’d been cancelled “because of my boobs.” The model, who seemed to take the incident in stride, added, “I’m normally told I’m cancelled because I’m ‘coloured.'” [Fashionista]
