According to the Wrap, Deen received a total of 33 nominations. He won Best Group Sex Scene, shot by Mason, a female director for Canadian production company Hard X. His second win was for Best Double Penetration Scene, filmed by the company Tushy, which said they would not be hiring Deen in the future.

A panel discussion on consent titled, “Consent Degrees: Yes, No and Everything in Between” was scheduled to take place at the AVN awards on the same day, but was cancelled. Stoya, the first performer to come forward about Deen’s alleged abuse, was originally a panel participant, but chose not to attend the awards.

Yeah, I’ve held my tongue about this issue for the 10+ years I’ve been on this site but no more. As a second wave feminist, porn isn’t empowering, it isn’t cool and it sucks to me. Yes, it’s my personal opinion and many disagree with me. That’s fine. To those people, tell me how gang bang, choking and bukkake are empowering to women? Women fucking is awesome. I have no issue with that at all. For profit ventures where the women are being used (mostly) for men is revolting to me. If you look at the majority of porn being ushered in to society today, it is little more than rape and humiliation on camera. The envelope is being pushed further and further. “Lesbian” porn are two hot chicks who are straight, for men. Double and triple penetration is the norm. Slightly outside of “norm” but still considered norm is the choking and degredation I mentioned.

Yes, I am aware of many for women by women porn companies. I think they are wonderful. They are far from standard or even profitable however. The whole thing makes me hate it. Add in the countless stories about women who used to do porn and got out, their horrific stories and yeah, it’s a cesspool of awfulness.

Never understood why Jezebel supported porn. Empowering?

I know I’ll get a ton of shit for my post and that’s okay. Before I get the pile on, please know I am not talking about women who genuinely love what they do. Awesome, she’s better off than me who hates my job. What I am talking about are the countless women who found this career out of desperation, which seems to be a huge segment. Their treatment and what they talk about is nothing short of not-empowering.
