After two industry-wide moratoriums on shooting in less than a month, several adult film stars came forward today in support of California's recent condoms-in-porn law.

Cameron Bay and Rod Daily, two of the porn stars who recently tested HIV positive, held a press conference earlier today in Hollywood alongside AIDS Healthcare Foundation President Michael Weinstein, who is a powerful proponent of mandatory condoms in porn. One the other side, The Free Speech Coalition, the porn industry’s trade group that is currently appealing the condom law, saying the law violates "porn producers’ right to artistic freedom of speech".

“Ultimately, it’s just a big industry, and their main concern is money,” said Daily, who tested positive for HIV shortly after girlfriend Bay tested positive. “If they do care that much about the performers, they would use condoms.”

DISCUSSION

I work in the field of risk management and safety and for the life of me cannot understand why porn actors should be exempt from PPE (personal protective equipment) when shooting movies. All employees who work in high-risk occupations (construction, manufacturing etc.) are required to wear some type of protection. Companies and management most provide it and employees must wear it. Why does this not apply to the porn industry? Can someone enlighten me? Is there another OSHA class I should take?
