Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are longtime friends of Victoria Beckham, but the pair are pretty vocal about how they don't think the pop-star-turned-designer has the serious fashion chops it takes to be considered legit. "She's a fashion designer but it's another… it's different. John Galliano is a designer… Alexander McQueen." Instead, they likened her clothing to that of chain retail stores like Zara or H&M. Ouch.
D&G spoke at last night's Victoria and Albert Museum's Glamour Of Italian Fashion event where they were asked about Beckham's clothing line.
"She's a friend," said Gabbana. "She make a good job but... for us, she don't make the same way like a fashion designer."
It seems like they're still holding her pop-star past against her, with Dolce adding, "She become after many, many, many different things. She's a designer but..."
It's apparent that Dolce and Gabbana still don't consider her to be the real deal. However, Beckham has proven to be both critically and commercially successful with glowing reviews of her latest runway show, a recent report that her business is now in the black and the confirmation that she's opening her first brick-and-mortar store in London followed by an office in New York City.
So maybe they're just jealous?
