Can Megan Thee Stallion Have Peace?

If it wasn’t already apparent that certain men will never allow Megan Thee Stallion (né Megan Pete) to have the last word, that unfortunate fact just got clearer.

On Wednesday, the rapper was forced to—once again—hop on Instagram live to set the record straight as her philandering ex, Pardison Fontaine, and incarcerated former friend, Tory Lanez (Daystar Peterson), continue their commitment to cause her stress.

Weeks after Pete released “Cobra,” her latest single in which she seemingly confirms Fontaine cheated on her, he sat down with Angela Yee for an episode of Lip Service and attempted to deliver his defense. It went about as well as his album’s release, in that it absolutely flopped. As a refresher, Pete’s verse that apparently accused Fontaine of being deceitful went like this: “Pulled up, caught him cheatin’, gettin’ his dick sucked in the same spot I’m sleepin’/ Lord, give me a break, I don’t know how much more of this shit I can take.”

According to his explanation though, whether or not he was in the wrong really just depends on what your definition of cheating is…

“That’s not what happened at all…” Fontaine told Yee. “Is hiding text messages cheating?” Technically? No. Is it usually an indicator of cheating? Absolutely. When Yee rightfully pushes back and notes as much, Fontaine replies: “In that regard, I’d say [I did cheat].” So, it’s settled. He cheated. And yet, Fontaine still found a way to shirk accountability, claiming that he had never physically engaged with another woman while he was dating Pete and that she was the one who’d shown signs of disloyalty.

“Inappropriate, correct,” he said of his behavior before going on to denounce Pete’s characterization of it on the track. “But the way that it was painted had me so mad, I’m like this is the part of the relationship —after everything that took place; everything that was kind of, y’know, forgiven; everything that we’ve washed away; especially when nobody asked for this—this is what you wanna go with?”

“I’m tired of having to explain to motherfuckers anything about my life when y’all don’t want to hear it anyway,” Pete said on her Instagram live. “I don’t have anything bad to say about my ex. If I’m not talking about you, why are you talking about me?”

As if Fontaine’s bogus grievances weren’t enough, Peterson’s driver and bodyguard, Jauquan Smith, recently submitted a new letter to aid in Peterson’s appeal. The letter reportedly insinuates that it was Pete’s former best friend, Kelsey Harris, who fired the gun at Pete in the 2020 shooting which culminated in an arduous public trial and Peterson’s conviction. Notably, he identifies himself as a “close personal friend” to Peterson. News of the letter, of course, has reignited a particularly ugly and outdated discourse riddled with misogynoir in which Pete is—once again—accused of being a liar.

“Motherfuckers is getting denied every time they try to set a motion for a new trial, so they’re trying to pull shit out the air…Y’all are defending somebody who didn’t even take the stand and defend themself,” Pete said of the online conversation surrounding the letter on Instagram, before adding a message directed right at Peterson: “I know who shot me. I said who shot me. And that’s why the fuck you’re in jail.”

Pete told viewers she’s just trying to move on from the shooting as best as she can, and quite succinctly encouraged disbelievers to “go read something that’s going to have to make you do some critical thinking.”
