Bluewater Productions turned Justin Bieber into The Little Prince, made Taylor Lautner a stoner, drew Lady Gaga as a sea hag and imagined Robert Pattinson as a homeless Tom Waits. Coming soon? Betty White: Female Force. Be kind to Rose!
I die inside just a little bit every time I see one of these comics. They're put out under this vernier of being a Good Thing, but the shallow approach to Girl Comics just draws attention to difference and says "this is what boys read, all this cool stuff over here, Tranformers and Batman... and here's what GIRLS read... Marvel adaptations of Pride and Prejudice with Cosmo-esque covers and BIOGRAPHIES of important women, so you can feel more confident, because we know you girls just have no confidence, and are trembling in the face of a scary, frightening world."
At least, that's what "Female Force" comics say to me, when I see them. Then I pick up my huge-ass stack of Batman comics and go home. Well, after I vomit in my mouth at the Marvel Cosmo-esque covers for classic adaptations of "female issue" books.
