That very tempting scripted TV project about morning news shows starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon of course got picked up, and Apple was the bidding war winner.
Apple seems confident in its shiny new acquisition as it has green-lit the series for two seasons, or 20 episode, The Guardian reported on Wednesday. Aside from starring, Aniston and Witherspoon will executive produce and co-own the show with Michael Ellenberg’s Media Res production company. It’s too bad the two can’t split awards trophies too! That’s just the kind of show this is shaping up to be.
House of Cards’ Jay Carson will write and executive produce the series, Amazon’s second straight-to-series order, the other one being Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories.
Not many details about the show are known except that it will be about morning shows, the “larger New York media scene,” and “unique challenges faced by the women (and men) who carry out this daily television ritual” (per The Hollywood Reporter). So, we’ve definitely got women, (men), the news, and the mornings in the mix.
If it’s not already abundantly clear, the project still has a long way to go before it is completed and then you are watching it. The Hollywood Reporter put it this way: “as for how racy it will be, that’s still to be determined.” Also, the words! As of this moment it’s a series without a script.
It also doesn’t have a name yet, but if this morning show drama is called anything other than Wake Me Up Inside, I’ll be a little pissed.
