Real Life Swedish Chef Told to Scale Back on School Lunch Deliciousness

Latest

Remember all those times you were eating school lunch and saying to yourself, “This is just too good. They spoil us, they really do!” Yeah, me neither, but apparently that was the case at one Swedish school until recently. Their crafty head cook Annika Eriksson was a school lunch machine; preparing fresh and flavorful meals for her pupils, including housemade breads and tons of tasty veggies. Seriously, the place sounded like everything Fresh Choice wishes it was.

However, when someone from the school board found out of her deviant ways, the program was met a quick death. The reasoning, according to Swedish newspaper The Local, is pretty ridiculous:

The municipality has ordered Eriksson to bring it down a notch since other schools do not receive the same calibre of food — and that is “unfair”.
“It has been claimed that we have been spoiled and that it’s about time we do as everyone else,” Eriksson said.

It’s especially crazy because she’s never asked for more money, or any other handouts from on high. She does it all with just a sprinkle of creativity, a dash of ingenuity, and one mastermind rat under her chef’s hat.

Worst part of this whole mess? Her annual Easter and Christmas smörgåsbords may also be under threat. Nöt the smörgåsbords! THESE PEOPLE ARE MONSTERS.

Here’s a thought: Why don’t they find out what she’s doing and then perhaps try to extend the smarts to other schools? She obviously had some sort of system to keep that well-oiled (mmm oil) machine working, they could use it to create a blueprint for the entire country. Or, at least try to, perhaps take a few of her ideas and see if they scale. Smörgåsbords for all!

If they can’t get their shit together, perhaps the Swedish school board will look to America for further inspiration come next lunch time.
