Zöe Kravitz and Lisa Bonet Embody Mom-Daughter Goals in New Calvin Klein Ad

Entertainment

Daughter Zöe Kravitz and mother Lisa Bonet are, in general, preternaturally great, two women whose talents and beauty have left a lasting impression on two or three generations of young women. Together in a new Calvin Klein ad, holding hands and running across a freakin’ beach, they couldn’t be any more picturesque or more fully realized in the cool, free spirit boho idealism they embody.

The ad, as E! reports, is part of a series showcasing various types of couples, shot by feminist fashion photographer Cass Bird. Other images in the campaign include actors, models, and Instagram stars Will Peltz and Kenya Kinski; Kim Woo Bin and Xiao Wen Ju; and John Hein and Tilda Lindstam.

Calvin Klein watches and jewelry, so carefree!! But clearly the Lisa/Zoe combo is the best, an early mother’s day reminder of how great it is (or could be) to have a cool mom who is also a bad bitch. (SHOUT TO MY MOM.) This is also a great time to delve into YouTube’s treasure trove of old Lisa Bonet interviews, when she was a young actor just starting out and fully bucking everyone’s expectations of what a young actor should be, especially as a black woman: anti-Hollywood, anti-establishment, cooly hippie and playing the game just as much as she had to to scrape by.

Here’s my favorite, on a 1990 Donohue panel with kindred spirit River Phoenix and Raul Julia about earth-consciousness (a pretty outlier perspective at the time!):

It is also a good reminder that Zöe Kravitz’s band, Lolawolf, is genuinely great.

Congrats to the happy mom and daughter!
