Your Evening Cry: How We Wish History Had Gone Down

If you're ready to cry into your evening bowl of ice cream bon bons, grab all the Kleenex ever made, and get into this Anti-Defamation League video. It imagines a world that still has Martin Luther King, Anne Frank, Matthew Shepard, and many other wonderful souls because it's a world without hate crimes. I'm imagining it, and I'm sniffling into my second dinner (the best dinner) — and I'm ready to kick hate in the crotch, or give it a hug — whatever it takes!

It is a clever concept but it feels like the fact that they might have gone on to do great things is being linked to why their deaths were bad. Their deaths were bad because killing people is bad. Sure Anne Frank might have gone on to be an incredibly talented author, or she might have got discouraged, never written another word, turned to drink and never made a single worthwhile contribution to society at all - and neither of those things would change the horror and tragedy of her death. Ugh, it's late and I don't know whether I'm making sense . Hate crimes are bad because hate is a destructive force and even one death caused by bigotry is too many and diminishes us all.

Also, I had to google Byrd and now I feel sick. Some people are just a waste of oxygen.
