Can you believe it? Melania Trump, the woman currently engaged in what seems like matrimonial agony to the most famous bully on earth, is officially kicking off her anti-bullying tour. According to Fox 61, her first stop will be Orchard Lake Middle School in Detroit, where she and Betsy DeVos will join some unfortunate students for lunch and kick off the“#NoOneEatsAlone” campaign.
I’m having a hard time imaging the optics of this lunch. What will the school do with all of the girls, people of color, undocumented immigrants, Muslims, Mexicans, trans kids, gay kids, and others who have been insulted, banned, and dehumanized by Donald Trump? What’s going to happen to the brave student who points out the hypocrisy of her cosigning one of the most despicable bullies on the planet? Is any teacher going to have the balls to point out that Trump administration is single-handedly responsible for an uptick in racist attacks and hate crimes across America? Which Melania will even show up?
Melania is too busy empowering children to be concerned by these questions. According to her spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham,“Mrs. Trump is independent and acts independently from her husband.”
“She does what she feels is right, and knows that she has a real opportunity through her role as first lady to have a positive impact on the lives of children,” she told CNN. “Her only focus is to effect change within our next generation.”
All I can say is: Best of luck to the kiddos trying to survive a uniquely terrible Monday in middle school.
