Wife Refuses To Meet Rescued Chilean Miner Because He Invited His Mistress

Latest

Chilean miner Yonni Barrios’ wife learned he’d had a mistress when she met her at a vigil for the trapped men. Barrios asked for both of them to be there when he was rescued. He only got half his wish.

Marta Salinas heard another woman calling her husband’s name at the mine’s edge, only to find out that the affair had lasted ten years. She told Chilean press,

“I am happy because he made it, it’s a miracle of God. But I’m not going to see the rescue. He asked me to, but it turns out that he also asked the other lady, and I am a decent woman. Things are clear: it’s her or me. I won’t even watch it on TV. Besides, in phone conversations and in the letters he has sent me it’s clear that he is fine, and that’s enough for me.”

The other woman, Susana Valenzuela, has said that she was told he was about to get a divorce from his wife of 28 years.

Barrios isn’t the only one returning to a complicated personal picture, according to The Evening Standard:

Another miner apparently had four partners: a first wife he never divorced, his live-in partner, a mother of a child he had several years ago, and a woman who claims to be his current girlfriend all visiting the camp.

But romance isn’t dead. One of the miners proposed to his long-term girlfriend while underground.
