It's not a very flattering pic - she's smiling too hard, which tenses up the muscles in your face and makes you look harsh (and sometimes crazy). The Emmy pic is a more relaxed smile, which is always more flattering.

Idle speculation: as much as I love her on Glee, I hear she can be a pain in the ass. I wonder if occaisionally these less than flattering cover photos reflect a put-out editorial staff that is having the last laugh on a celebrity who was difficult or overbearing. Can anyone support or refute this theory? Am I imagining things?
