Westboro Baptist Church Will Picket 'Fag Enabler' Roger Ebert's Funeral

Latest

The Westboro Baptist Church, the independent Baptist church generally known for being a rather arbitrary hate group (all gay people and dead soldiers are evil, but Jennifer Lawrence is cool) that spends its time picketing funerals with offensive signage will be picketing the Monday morning funeral of Roger Ebert over a Twitter feud it had with the late film critic.

The group announced, via press release, that “Lord willing” it will picket the service because Ebert was a “fag enabler” who “took to Twitterverse to mock the faithful servants of God at Westboro Baptist Church.” About two weeks before his death, Ebert had tweeted a link to an online article about a book—Does Jesus Really Love Me?: A Gay Christian’s Pilgrimage in Search of God in America—by Jeff Chu, a gay man, who spent a day at Westboro as part of his research.

The WBC charges that Ebert “sold his soul for some fame & fortune” and that he “is in a new jurisdiction, where he can see the blessings poured out on God’s humble servants in heaven, from his seat of eternal torment & sorrow in Hell!”

It’s just another ploy for attention on the part of the group, but they are sort of right: Roger Ebert was a fag enabler. And it’s one of the many reasons his life will be celebrated with a solid thumbs up.
