Watch Melissa McCarthy Discover She's Nominated For An Emmy

Latest

Melissa McCarthy was presenting the Primetime Emmy nominations this morning when she heard her own name announced — watch her delight above. Overall, she’s having a pretty good year.

Even if she doesn’t win an Emmy for her work on Mike & Molly, she can take significant comfort in the fact that she was the breakout star of the wildly successful Bridesmaids, and that Paul Feig and Judd Apatow are teaming up to create a star vehicle for her.

As for the other winners this morning — at least until the actual ceremony — the lion’s share of nominations went to HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce (21 nominations), Mad Men (19), and Modern Family (17). There were some surprises: The Kennedys for, as Time‘s James Poniewozik put it, “All the Miniseries That TV Made This Year,” and a writing nomination for The Killing over The Good Wife, which sparked outrage. The Times pointed out that Kyra Sedgwick not being nominated was a “notable snub,” and that a younger guard of late-night comedy, with Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Fallon, was prevailing over Letterman and Leno.

And then there were some constants: Mad Men, HBO continuing its twelve-year streak as most-nominated. Awards will be presented September 18.
