UC Irvine Responds to Outrage Over That Sexist Career Advice Email

Latest

After receiving a fair number of negative emails from enraged students over an image they chose to include in an email blast Monday, a tipster tells us that the UC Irvine Career Center has released an apology for their misstep.

The email reads as follows:

Subject: Follow up to UCI Career Center Newsletter
Dear UCI Campus Community,
The UCI Career Center has received significant feedback regarding the “How to Ace that Interview” section of our Oct 28, 2013 Weekly Email for students. The broad intent of the section was to convey that employers expect preparation during the interview process, but the photos in the section were poor choices and they do not reflect our values. The UCI Career Center takes full responsibilities for our actions, and if we have offended you or anyone who has received our newsletter, we offer our sincere apologies.
Suzanne Helbig
Director, Career Center
