Tina and Jewel, two Asian elephants on loan from the San Diego Zoo, have been transferred to their new home at the Los Angeles Zoo. They'll soon join Billy, another elephant, in a six-acre, $42 million exhibit opening December 16.

I went to the LA zoo yesterday and I was saddened because I thought that it had larger, better habitats for the animals than it does. The poor leopard was pacing back and forth in a space smaller that the size of the little backyard my 8lb dog runs around in (and he needs to go to the park for more room to run).

Some of the habitats seemed pretty good like for the gorillas or chimps but it was very lopsided. It was like here are our feature animals with the bigger habitats (I think that's the right word) and here are the second stage animals that get cages. :(
