Another fun feature of Hell is that there are several applications of the “lock her up!” chant. It can now, presumably, be said of any woman politician whom Trump perceives as unfriendly to his agenda or ego.
Trump exclaimed to his followers, “How about Senator Feinstein. That’s another beauty.” The crowd booed. Then Trump said, “Did you you leak the documents?” His fans loved it and so started shouting, “Lock her up!”
Trump smiled at this, saying, “and I think they’re talking about Feinstein!” No shit.
He followed this up with similar remarks: “Did she leak it? One hundred percent. I don’t want to get sued—99 percent. See? Now I can’t get sued.” Despite knowing nothing about anything, Trump does demonstrate a remarkable understanding of his power to get away with harassing women.
There is no evidence that Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, leaked Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s allegations of sexual assault against Brett Kavanaugh. Feinstein has denied leaking the letter containing the allegations. Ryan Grim, Washington bureau chief for The Intercept, the first outlet to report on the letter, has denied the involvement of Feinstein or her staff in leaking the document. Trump is just trying to distract from the allegations that letter contained, and he’ll allow another woman to be threatened in the process.
Shortly after the rally, Feinstein told The Hill, “Dr. Blasey Ford knows I kept her confidence, she and her lawyers said so repeatedly. Republican senators admit it. Even the reporter who broke the story said it wasn’t me or my staff.”
