Brooke Shields has had a long, fascinating career—so fascinating, in fact, that she’s hard pressed to remember some of the celebrities with whom she’s hung out in the last million or so years she’s been in the spotlight. But one thing she’ll never forget is how grossed out she was when Donald Trump asked her out that one time, using a pickup line so distinctly Trump I’m surprised it’s not immortalized in 20-foot tall block letters on the facade of a casino.
Shields fought back her gag reflex on Watch What Happens Live on Tuesday night, telling Andy Cohen that Trump asked her out in 1999 shortly after his divorce from Marla Maples. Look how fondly she remembers that time!
“Did he hit on you?” Cohen asks.
“No...but he did ask me out later,” she said, visibly struggling to keep her throat from closing. She didn’t go out with him, obviously. But:
“He called me, I was on location doing a movie, and he called me right after he’d gotten a divorce and said...‘I really think we should date because you’re America’s sweetheart and I’m America’s richest man, and the people would love it.’”
Brooke Shields did not, in fact love it, turning him down on the basis that her boyfriend at the time would also not love it. Candice Bergen once tried it and decidedly not love it. Brigitte Macron would like to drive her stiletto heel straight through Trump’s heart (another way of expressing that she does love it, either). I definitely do not love it. Do you love it?
