In an interview with NPR’s Weekend Edition that will air on Sunday, Joe Biden—your former BFF who you just can’t confide in anymore because they told everyone in the entire senior class that you’re still a virgin—reportedly announces Bernie Sanders’ endorsement of Hillary Clinton on his behalf. It appears that Bernie is not particularly grateful for this generous service.
“Oh, I’ve talked to Bernie, Bernie’s going to endorse her, this is going to work out,” Biden said in an interview with NPR’s Rachel Martin, a little over a week before he’ll join Clinton on the campaign trail for the first time. “The Democrats are coalescing even before this occurs.”
NPR notes that when Sanders was asked about this statement in an MSNBC interview Thursday night, he replied that “as of this moment, we’re not there quite yet.”
“I talked to Joe, I think it was three weeks ago,” Sanders said. “Look, on that issue we are trying to work with Secretary Clinton’s campaign on areas that we can agree.” The Vermont senator also repeated his pledge “to do everything that I can to defeat Donald Trump.”
Sanders says he is still working towards reaching an agreement with Clinton’s camp on issues critical to his supporters like free public college and universal health care—issues that, frankly, his exceedingly pragmatic opponent is unlikely to change her tune on.
While it’s no huge shock that Bernie Sanders will eventually endorse Clinton—he’s already said that he will vote for her in November—Biden does have a fun lil’ tendency to say things before they’re ready to be said, most notably when he came out in support of same-sex marriage while Obama was still pretending to be “evolving” on the issue pre-2012 election.
As 3LW would say: players are gonna play, haters are gonna hate, and Joe Biden is going to put people running for president in uncomfortable positions.
