True Life Really Outdoes Itself With MILF Episode

Last night’s True Life: I Have A Hot Mom began with a somber statement from a fifteen-year-old girl: “My name is Tori, and for pretty obvious reasons I’m always being overshadowed by my Mom.” Camera zooms in on Tori’s mother’s humongous breasts.

The two women profiled in MTV’s True Life series last night were the things nightmares are made from: self-absorbed ladies with more concern for their looks and exposing their body than what’s going on with their teenage daughter. For Tori, the biggest concern in her life is her mom, Lacey — and the continual flaunting of her gigantic breasts. The show followed the mother/daughter duo as they went shopping for, as Tori put it, “something that you can look normal in.” Almost perfectly on cue, Lacey refuses to listen to her daughter’s suggestions and goes for the itsy-bitsy-teeny-weeny red bikini that would be small on a person with a B cup.. Worse, she then leaves the bathing suit on and walks around with her daughter, much to Tori’s dismay. Later, she goes out to dinner with Tori and her son, who tell her she’s self-centered after she begs them to let her ride the mechanical bull and asks them to “tape it with your cell phone so I can put it YouTube.” The breaking point comes when Tori discovers that her friend have found her Mother’s sexy Facebook profile and asks that she make her account private. Lacey’s response? “I shouldn’t have to. Why’s everybody looking me up?”

Meanwhile, we’ve got Victoria, 19, who’s a college sophomore that lives at home. Her interests include the Harry Potter series and studying. Her Mom Gina, fresh off of a divorce, is only concerned with her looks — and putting Victoria back into the pageant circuit. Gina’s behavior has reverted to that of a teenager, causing Victoria to be the one who acts like an adult. For example, the clip at left shows Gina begging her daughter to be her designated driver for the night; Tori obliges, but gets stuck sitting in the parking garage with her homework until her drunk mom — and her drunk friends — call her to pick them up. If only the True Life series had obligatory therapy as part of its show, perhaps I wouldn’t feel so disturbed after watching a full hour of this shit.
