Today Uses Halloween To Remind Us Of Extensive & Overdone Royal Wedding Coverage

NBC ran weeks of royal wedding coverage this summer. Obviously it wasn't enough, since the entire cast of the Today show was dressed as the royal family this morning. Ann Curry was Kate Middleton, Natalie Morales was Pippa, Matt Lauer was Prince William, and Al Roker was Prince Harry. Hoda and Kathie Lee were Eugenie and Beatrice. Savannah Guthrie had to switch genders and be Prince Charles. And in a twist, former cohost Meredith Vieira made a surprise appearance as Queen Elizabeth, with corgis in tow. Poor puppies — their tiny feet were trampled when Matt dipped Her Majesty for a smooch, knocking off her wig and hat. Awkward!

A frame-by-frame look, thanks to Gawker's Matt Cherette.

Also awkward: Lauer and Curry kissing.

Ugh, I saw this and had to turn it off after about 60 seconds, it was so embarrassing. Seriously, the American obsession with the British royal family is weeeeeeeird. Also, maybe I'm just a fuddy duddy (okay, I'm a fuddy duddy), but I find the adults dressed up at Halloween thing sorta awkward. I pretty much still think of Halloween as a holiday for kids.

And now I will crawl back in to my grumpy hole.
