Today Has the Last Thing It Needs: More Drama

Latest

Trouble is brewing yet again at the Today show because the morning talk show scene is basically a high school cafeteria. Rumors have emerged about tension between cohosts Natalie Morales and Tamron Hall—which has apparently gotten so bad that Morales is considering leaving the show.

Page Six broke the story revealing that Morales and Hall are engaged in a “power struggle,” presumably for the homecoming queen title, and NBC News President Deborah Turness is #TeamTamron.

An NBC source told Page Six, “There’s a lot of tension. Natalie and Tamron are competitive, and there was a big blowup in October between the two. Deborah has an issue with Natalie and has sided with Tamron. There has been zero communication between Deborah and Natalie for a long period of time. It’s the talk of NBC staff.”

Natalie Morales’ agent is reportedly quietly looking into other opportunities, although Morales still has two years left on her Today contract.

Frankly, I’m getting tired of their bullshit. I understand that everyone wants to be THE STAR of morning television—it’s an alluring goal—but do these people not realize how cushy they have it?

NBC isn’t sending their asses to war zones or asking them to break quarantine measures with an ebola patient. They get to interview celebrities and the subjects of viral YouTube videos and do cooking segments with Mario Batali. And they get paid millions of dollars to do so. Who cares if you don’t like the bitch in the office next to you or if your cohost is an egomaniac who made your friend cry on national television? I mean, Tamron Hall basically gets paid to look gorgeous and read tweets on live television.

The only person who seems to have figured this out is Al Roker. Al gets up early, he does the weather, he makes some jokes and then he goes home to his real friends and his piles of money.

Natalie Morales is arguably the best person on the show after Al and with the cool kids over in Times Square continuing to kick their butts, Today could not possibly need this kerfuffle any less.

For what it’s worth, executive producer Don Nash denies the rumors as “total nonsense.” Let’s all remember those words 16 months from now when Natalie Morales announces a new ABC talk show and Tamron Hall gets a promotion.
