Anti-abortion activists held protests in front of Planned Parenthood clinics across the country on Saturday. The demonstrations, which targeted about 320 locations, come after an anti-abortion group released a series of videos targeting the women’s health organization.
The protesters are calling for a defunding of Planned Parenthood. “These rallies are meant to intimidate and harass our patients, who rely on our nonprofit health centers for basic, preventive health care,” Eric Ferrero, Planned Parenthood’s vice president, said in a statement according to the Washington Post. “The people behind these protests have a clear political agenda: They want to ban abortion, and block women and men from accessing basic reproductive health care.”
Newsday reports that a man with a crucifix sprinkled Holy Water over the protesters outside of one Planned Parenthood location in Hempstead, New York. So dramatic. I look at all these people, especially the women and wonder, “Can everyone here afford insurance?” If so, good for them, but these women better hope they don’t find themselves in a situation where they can’t, otherwise they’d be pretty thankful that Planned Parenthood exists.
