The Unexpected Celebrity Crush Phenomenon

I recently found out that The Rock may have learned about Osama Bin Laden’s death before any of us. If I had Mr. Dwayne Johnson’s number, I might be tempted to share big news with him too — because I sort of love him.

There are lots of reasons to love The Rock, but here are a few:

He was in The Rundown, which is basically the best good-bad movie ever. The Rock plays a bounty hunter who really wants to be a chef, which is heart-warming. Then he goes up against Christopher Walken (as Christopher Walken, essentially), who controls a town called “Helldorado.” Seann William Scott is involved somehow. The movie is so haphazardly made that in one scene the characters’ drinks just fill and empty at random, even though no one takes a drink or refills them. It both ironically and unironically enjoyable, and you can kind of tell The Rock is having fun on both levels.
He is friends with Mick Foley.

He played an alien wrestler on Star Trek: Voyager.
My mom likes him too. So if we date, she will totally approve.

He is hot.

Of course, my crush on The Rock shouldn’t necessarily be unexpected — as I mention above, he’s hot. But I’m a fairly geeky person and he’s a wrestler — our love would be star-crossed. Also, my other celebrity crushes are more like this. But I think we all get at least one celeb love-object that’s a little out of character for us — who’s yours?
