The Kardashian Kollection Was Kreated In A Little Sweatshop Of Horrors [UPDATED]

It’d be nice to say that this comes as a shock but judging from past money-grubbing behavior it’s all too easy to believe that a human rights organization has launched an investigation into the Kardashians for using “slave labor” to produce their tacky fashion wear. With their ranges K-Dash by Kardashian, Kris Jenner Kollection and ShoeDazzle getting special mentions, sweatshop workers in China’s Guangdong province are said to toil up to 84-hours over a seven-day work week in sewage-ridden conditions to produce the merchandise that helped the family earn $65 million last year.

“The Kardashians are in bed with some pretty bad people,” said Charles Kernaghan, executive director of the Institute for Global Labour and Human Rights. “Not only are celebrities like the Kardashians taking advantage of these workers, they are holding hands with a government that spits on democracy and women’s rights.”

Manufacturing their products in China to save on pesky overheads like minimum wage, factory staff earn around $1 an hour and are forbidden from talking, listening to music or even getting up to stretch in the often 100 degree heat. Though they’re allowed a generous four-minute toilet break, the highly specialized workers must hold on until their shift has ended, lest Americans go without one more item of leopard-print clothing.

“Kim has been very fortunate, but it’s time for her and her family to treat these workers with respect,” added Kernaghan. “Kim, for example, could say, ‘It ain’t going to be all about me, me and me.’ She could do something and not leave behind a broken mess of women and children. If she took a stand and said, ‘I want to manufacture my products in Chicago or Los Angeles, where I can ensure people humane conditions,’ she would be taking the right stand.”

Sadly, they’re not the only celebrities making a buck out of human misery: Carmen Electra and Mel B are also implicated in the investigation.
