Details continue to trickle out about the forthcoming spin-off of the long-running and highly regarded CBS series The Good Wife, which eventually moved far past its Hillary Clinton/Silda Spitzer-inspired premise. On Monday, the network revealed that the show has started filming in New York and has a name: The Good Fight.
The show stars former Good Wife cast members Christine Baranski, Cush Jumbo and Sarah Steele; other additions, such as Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones), Erica Tazel (Justified) and Bernadette Peters, round out the line up. This makes the spin-off—which premieres in February—a real Who’s Who of Women Worth Watching. Via a press release, the premise:
THE GOOD FIGHT picks up one year after the events of the final broadcast episode of “The Good Wife.” In the new series, an enormous financial scam has destroyed the reputation of a young lawyer, Maia, while simultaneously wiping out her mentor Diane Lockhart’s savings. Forced out of Lockhart & Lee, they join Lucca Quinn at one of Chicago’s pre-eminent law firms.
Hence...The Good Fight. Is it as clever as the original show title? Not quite, but it does seem to apply to the subject matter at hand while also paying homage to the source material. Is it Cheers to Frasier in quality? No, but it’s also not Friends to Joey. In spin-off land, this name is small potatoes.
Still, what would you have named it? I’d go with Forever Rest in Peace Will Gardner.
