Here is the first piece of writing I ever published, immortalized in the 1993 Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans. I was 6. Enjoy:

Me, Me Who Me,
Me who Me hello,
Bye Bye

Here’s all the shit we couldn’t cover today:

  • A Yemeni woman cannot travel to the U.S. to visit her son, who has been hospitalized in the ER and suffers from a serious brain condition, due to the Trump administration’s travel ban. “It’s separating family–literally separating family from each other,” said Ali Hassan, the boy’s father, who is a U.S. citizen and lives in California. “Right now, there’s no parent supposed to go through what I’m going through–nobody. I’m just doing my best, I do what I can.” [KPIX 5]
  • Nery Gilberto Caal Cuz, the father of the 7-year-old Guatemalan girl who died in the custody of Customs Border and Patrol officials, signed a form saying that she was in good health–but the form was written in English and read to him in Spanish, neither of which are his native language. [Politico]
  • The Border Patrol didn’t tell Congress about Caal’s death, agency commissioner Kevin McAleenan testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee, because they didn’t want to “risk politicizing the death of a child.” Monsters. [ABC News]
  • Trump still wants to make the goddamn Space Force thing happen. [Associated Press]
  • Hawaii Democrat Tulsi Gabbard is mulling a 2020 presidential bid. [BuzzFeed News]
  • Ryan Zinke is in trouble. [New York Times]
  • Meet Zinke’s likely successor… an oil lobbyist! [New York Times]
  • The Trump Organization might return to the Dominican Republic, which would pose a conflict of interest. [ABC News]
  • One asshole, Steve King, shouts at another asshole, the Weekly Standard. [Washington Post]
  • Tennessee Rep. Gov. Lamar Alexander will not run for re-election in 2020. [Politico]
  • The New Knowledge report, one of two reports submitted to the Senate Intelligence Committee on Russia’s social media campaign targeting voters in the 2016 election, has found that Russian operatives attempted to suppress turnout of minority voters—specifically targeting black people. [New York Times]
  • The other report submitted to the Senate Intelligence Committee shows how Russian operatives interfered specifically to benefit Donald Trump and the Republican Party. [Washington Post]
  • A real estate investment company backed, in part, by Jared Kushner is using Donald Trump’s tax break to help wealthy communities. [Associated Press]
  • The City of Chicago has asked a federal judge to confirm that acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker “cannot lawfully exercise the duties of the office of the Attorney General.”[Chicago Sun-Times]
  • Hose Democrats are planning to introduce a number of bills combating gun violence in January. [Politico]
  • Saudi Arabia rejects the U.S. Senate’s call to hold itself accountable for the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, writing, “The kingdom categorically rejects any interference in its internal affairs, any and all accusations, in any manner, that disrespect its leadership.” [Associated Press]
  • I have no tears for this Trump voter who has only recently joined #TheResistance because of what the border wall will do to butterflies. [Washington Post]
  • The U.S. was one of two countries in the United General Assembly that voted against a resolution promoting abortion and creating a plan to respond to the global refugee crisis. A full 181 countries supported the resolution, which has been approved by consensus for the past sixty years. [The Guardian]
