The dark sides of being Carrie Bradshaw, one can easily imagine, are as long as a grocery list: contributing to the materialistic culture of Manhattan! Perpetuating unrealistic standards of romance! Not being able to go to a bar in New York (Midtown or Murray Hill especially) without women bum-rushing you! Et cetera.
The Academy of Country Music — or ACM — Awards brought country royalty to Vegas, with clothes to match.
So this happened. But so did a lot of other things, like lots of black lace, random pops of grown-up glamour (which is not really what the AMAs are about, but hey), and Nicki Minaj. Oh, where to begin?
It used to be Stetsons and sequins; nowadays the CMAs are the purview of hollywood stars, the occasional rapper, and some seriously bizarre fashions. (Although, yes, Reba, Taylor, Faith et al were representing.)
Look, everyone knows the country music community is totally modern and sophisticated. But is it wrong to wish that Reba, Taylor, Carrie, Faith and, yes, Nicole Kidman, were a little less elegant and a bit more...festive? Thank goodness for Stetsons!
