T&A Enhancements on the Decline as People Prefer to Jack Up Their Faces Instead

Big boobs and butts are perhaps losing their appeal since the number of people enhancing them cosmetically has declined for the first time in six years (notably, when Kim Kardashian Superstar was released). Meanwhile, procedures involving the face are on the rise, mostly due to aging baby boomers.

The data comes from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, which releases statistics on plastic surgery in the U.S. each year.

2012 saw a record number of people undergoing cosmetic procedures, with more than 14.6 million procedures performed in total, an increase of 5% over the year before. The number of actual surgeries performed dropped 2%, but this was more than offset by a 6% rise in minimally invasive cosmetic treatments.

Boob jobs are still the most popular surgery, but they decreased by about 7% since the previous year. And for most of the decade, butt augmentations were the fastest-growing procedure, but the number of those procedures fell a whopping 36% from the year before.

Instead, life has turned into a Janeane Garofalo joke: “A pretty face is your best asset this season. As opposed to last season, when ugly girls had a free ride.” People are focusing on plumping up and freezing their faces. Botox injections were up 8% (over 6.1 million procedures), while Restylane and Juvederm increased 5% (about 2 million procedures). Intense Pulse Light laser treatments went up 6% (2.2 million procedures).

This increase has been attributed to both technological advances and daytime talk shows that teach people about what’s available. But we all know that The Real Housewives has really been the most educational tool in learning about all the ways you can spend your money on your vanity.
