Stephen Colbert Does Not Envy the Guy Who Replaces Letterman

Latest

After news broke that Stephen Colbert would be replacing David Letterman at the Late Show in 2015, responses were mixed. Some people mourned the impending loss of Stephen’s right-wing alter ego and The Colbert Report, some people were excited and others were disappointed — though probably not surprised— about CBS’ upholding of the white male host status quo. And then there were those of us who felt all of those things at once.

One person who certainly did not feel ambivalent about the decision was Stephen Colbert, who took to his show last night to express his pity for Dave’s replacement.

“I’ve got to tell you,” he said to last night’s Colbert Report audience. “I do not envy whoever they try to put in that chair. Those are some huge shoes to fill.”

My guess is that Stephen will be up to the task.
