Someone Mailed 'Functional Explosive' Devices to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama [UPDATED]

This is a developing story and has been updated throughout.

The New York Times reports that explosive devices were found in mail sent to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former President Barack Obama.

From the Times:

In a statement, the Secret Service said it “has intercepted two suspicious packages addressed to Secret Service protectees,” who were identified as Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama.
The device addressed to Mrs. Clinton in Westchester County was found late on Tuesday by a Secret Service employee who screens mail for her office, the statement said. The package addressed to Mr. Obama was intercepted by Secret Service personnel in Washington, D.C. early on Wednesday.

And the Associated Press:

A U.S. official says a “functional explosive device” was found at Hillary and Bill Clinton’s suburban New York home.
The official wasn’t authorized to publicly discuss an ongoing investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity.
The device was discovered early Wednesday morning at the Clinton’s home in Chappaqua, New York.

A law enforcement official confirmed that the devices are similar to the explosive sent to the home of George Soros, the billionaire philanthropist who is the constant target of conspiracy theories and thinly veiled anti-Semitic attacks from the right.

Update, 10:25: CNN’s Jim Sciutto tweeted that an explosive device has been sent to the CNN offices in New York. The building is being evacuated.

Update, 3:57: A suspicious package was also sent to Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters. She released the following statement:

Update, October 26, 9:45 a.m.: Another package containing an explosive devise has been found, this time addressed to Senator Cory Booker.

This is the 12th suspicious package containing a pipe bomb that have been sent to Democratic public figures, Trump critics, and news organizations this week. Packages have thus far been sent to the Obamas, the Clintons, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, former CIA Director John Brennan, former Attorney General Eric Holder, former Vice President Joe Biden, actor Robert De Niro, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, billionaire philanthropist George Soros, and the CNN News office in New York.

The aforementioned have all been at the receiving end of President Trump’s countless rants.
