Some Empowering News for Women…

NewsPolitics

Are you a woman? Would you like to be our country’s ambassador to the United Nations, where you will be tasked with gutting aid for refugees but will have very nice curtains?

The job will be opening up soon, as Nikki Haley, the current U.S. ambassador to the UN, announced on Tuesday she’ll be leaving the post by the end of the year.

Already, White House aides are drafting up a list of women to fill the job, hoping that appointing someone who is not a man will improve Trump’s approval ratings with women, which a recent Pew Center poll put at a dismal 30 percent.

As one person who is “in regular contact with the president” put it to Politico, “The political shop thinks it’s very important to announce a woman before Election Day because of the president’s approval rating and the Kavanaugh stuff.”

Let’s take a look at who’s in the running and who’s not, according to recent news reports coming out of the White House:

  • NOT Ivanka;
  • NOT Dina Powell, a former Trump aide and current Goldman Sachs executive who I suspect would rather further global instability and chaos through her current very cushy job instead of at the UN;
  • Nancy Brinker, founder of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, which in 2012 briefly decided to cut its funding to Planned Parenthood;
  • Kelly Ayotte, the former senator from New Hampshire, who was apparently recommended by Senator Lindsey Graham which makes her an automatic no (at least for ME);
  • Kelly Knight Craft, the U.S. ambassador to Canada, who as far as I can tell got her current gig by, along with her coal executive husband, donating chests full of money to the GOP; and
  • Kay Bailey Hutchison, the former Texas senator and now our NATO representative, who as a native Texan I can safely say is bad but is probably the least terrible of all of the options listed above.

I don’t know about you, but looking at this list of women, I have totally gotten over my rage at the appointment of an alleged sexual assaulter and a habitual liar to the Supreme Court.
