Sinclair Broadcasting Forces Local Stations to Run Segment Defending Tear-Gassing Asylum-Seekers

Politics

Sinclair Broadcasting Group, the right-wing media giant and largest television station owner in the United States, forced its nearly 200 local news networks to air a deranged defense of Border Patrol agents tear gassing asylum-seeking migrants.

Media Matters’ Pam Vogel tweeted a video of the “must-run” news segment featuring Sinclair’s Chief Political Analyst Boris Epshteyn, a former Trump administration adviser best known for writing Trump’s 2017 Holocaust Remembrance Day speech that didn’t actually mention Jewish people.

Epshteyn said that migrants attempted to “storm” the border on Sunday, and that the tear gas launched at the crowds—which included children—was apparently necessary to stop them.

“Some on the left, such as Democrat Congresswoman Maxine Waters, were immediately up in arms about our president and his team standing up for our men and women in uniform and for our national security,” said Epshteyn. “The fact of the matter is that this is an attempted invasion of our country, period.”

This is the new normal for local news stations under Sinclar’s control:

In March, Sinclair was criticized after forcing news casters to read deeply Trumpian statements denouncing “false news” in the “national media,” which some broadcasters described as akin to a hostage situation. I wonder how they feel about Epshteyn’s latest take.
