Silver Foxes Become Golden Girls On RuPaul's Drag Race

Last night, the challenge was for the contestants to transform men of a certain age in to “drag mothers.” With guest judges Debbie Reynolds and Cloris Leachman, the episode had a bawdy retirement home vibe.

Raven was initially upset that his “mom” had a “full fucking beard.”

But it’s not like you look at any of these guys and immediately think, “drag queen.”

Raven: “My mother is hairy.” Shaving was a bonding experience! After lip-sync and dance rehearsals, the older gentlemen were tired. Quoth Jujubee: “None of these bitches better die tonight.”

Raven totally transformed her mom from a bearded man into a little lady who lunches. The Other Tyra also did a great job, and Tatianna’s mother (who walks with a limp) had a great sense of humor and was totally campy. RuPaul’s intention was to introduce and honor an older generation of gay men who made this kind of show possible, and it was actually pretty touching to see the contestants be reverent and sweet to their “mothers.”

The performances were riveting, because the line between tremendous and trainwreck was so thin. In the end, Raven was the winner, and Pandora Boxx and Jujubee were up for elimination. Sadly, Pandora had to sashay away. She’ll be missed!
