Shrek Filmmakers Not Thrilled With Sexy Shrek Fashion Spreads

Latest

As you’ll recall, the Shrek characters appear in an edgy VMan fashion spread photographed by Ellen von Unwerth. Apparently reps from Paramount and DreamWorks Animation regret the deal. Is it the half-naked models? Or the man-on-man action?

Paramount and DreamWorks Animation reps have issued a statement, which says, in part:

“While we do respect Vman’s creative vision, the shoot did not turn out the way originally envisioned when the idea was first presented by the magazine… In hindsight, we would have declined to include the Shrek characters in such a magazine spread.”

Much like when characters from The Simpsons appeared in Harper’s Bazaar, the Shrek spread was most likely intended to promote the forthcoming film. But perhaps the filmmakers weren’t expecting it to look like Donkey had just been in a threesome?

Or maybe they had issues with Puss being fed grapes by a shirtless man?

Maybe they didn’t like Fiona bringing kids to a boozy party?

Jokes aside: None of it really seems that risque, to be honest. The reps were not specific about what they don’t like, exactly, but neither Paramount nor Dreamworks will be taking legal action. Besides, a quick web search makes it clear what kind of images get printed in VMan. .

And let’s face it: If the intended result was to create buzz-worthy images that fit with the magazine’s aesthetic while simultaneously promoting the new Shrek movie, well, then: Mission accomplished.
