It’s official: Cardi B has the #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 right now with “Bodak Yellow,” which means she is the first female rapper to top the chart, solo, in almost 20 years.
The last female rapper to go #1 without any features was Lauryn Hill with “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998 and Cardi is only the fifth female rapper to lead the chart at all. The most recent female rapper to gain the position was Iggy Azalea with “Fancy,” which included a feature from writer Charli XCX, who is truly the one responsible for that hit.
Meanwhile Taylor Swift, whose song “Look What You Made Me Do” has just been bumped down from the #1 position on the chart, stares out at the ocean from her Rhode Island mansion. Abruptly, she crushes a delicate wine glass filled with rosé in her palm, letting the blood drip down her arm as she screams and screams and screams into the fresh ocean air.
