In 2008, Shania Twain split with her husband Robert “Mutt” Lange when he left her for Twain’s best friend. The ultimate betrayal, Twain has never resolved her relationship with former friend Marie-Anne Thiébaud, though she keeps things cordial with her ex. The country singer and the British record producer share a 13-year-old son named Eja. In an interview with the New York Post, Twain said, “I don’t see her, ever. I don’t invite that trigger into my life. She’s not my future—she’s not my past.”
When the affair was revealed, Twain thought she wouldn’t be able to move past it. “This is more than I can handle—I’m never going to sing again,” she thought at the time. “I had to grieve through it.” Ironically, Twain found love again with Swiss-born Nestlé exec Frédéric Thiébaud, Marie-Anne’s ex-husband.
