Sandra Lee Reveals Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Latest

In an interview that aired on Good Morning America Tuesday, 48-year-old Sandra Lee revealed that she found out she has breast cancer during a routine mammogram, and will be getting a double mastectomy. “Girls have to know,” Lee said, encouraging women to get checked. “Girls in their 20s and their 30s just have to know. And I don’t want women to wait.”

Sandra was recently in the news for happier reasons; it’s been rumored that she’s getting her own lifestyle show. Through tears, Lee told Robin Roberts she found out about her diagnosis shortly after finishing a photoshoot for her inclusion in People magazine’s Most Beautiful issue. (Roberts was clearly a carefully chosen interviewer, given that she herself survived breast cancer.) She’s already had a lumpectomy, and will soon get a double mastectomy, though doctors say they caught the cancer early and her outlook is good. She says her boyfriend, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, has been very supportive.

Godspeed to her. Here’s a video of Sandra from the People shoot, just being Sandra.
