Rosie O'Donnell Totes Understands Where Chris Brown Is Coming From

Latest

Rosie O’Donnell discussed Chris Brown on her radio show over the weekend, saying: “I just don’t know why this kid seems to be held to a different standard than anyone else.” Because, you know, other people throw chairs at windows, sending shattered glass down onto Times Square, and no one gives a shit!

Rosie went on to say that she believes that there’s a “race issue” when it comes to Chris Brown coverage, which is a valid point; she thinks “that there is a societal paradigm in which you have to be an angel or a thug if you’re a black male.” The problem is that we’re not just talking about a chair and a broken window, we’re also talking about hitting a woman in the face until her lip splits and her eyes swell. Yet Rosie didn’t bring up Rihanna, concentrating solely on the Good Morning America incident: “I felt mildly angry at Robin Roberts… I felt like writing her and going: ‘Can you take a look at this again and see if maybe you find — in any way — your responsibility in this?'” Um, no. A TV host is not responsible for a singer’s inability to control his temper.

The kerfuffle did hit close to home for Rosie, though. She relates to Chris Brown because she, too, harbors nasty feelings about ABC:

“Part of me wanted to take a chair and throw it through the window at The View after all that happened,” she said of her troubled one-year stint as moderator of the ABC daytime show.
“But, you know, there are no windows down there in that rat-infested cellar. Remember that cellar we were in?” O’Donnell said to her radio producer.

Rosie isn’t the only celebrity feeling soft-hearted about Chris Brown. Chris Rock thinks Brown should return to Good Morning America and do a duet with Rihanna. He suggests they sing “Hit Me With Your Best Shot.”

Meanwhile, Chris Brown’s album is currently #1 on the Billboard charts.
