After Snapchat removed and apologized for a particularly awful advertisement asking users if they would rather “punch Chris Brown” or “slap Rihanna,” the pop singer has responded on Instagram.

In a message posted to her Instagram story, Rihanna writes:

Now SNAPCHAT I know you already know you ain’t my fav app out there! But I’m just trying to figure out what the point was with this mess! I’d love to call it ignorance, but I know you ain’t that dumb! You spent money to animate something that would intentionally bring shame to DV victims and made a joke of it!!! This isn’t about my personal feelings, cause I don’t have much of them...but all the women, children, and men that have been victims of DV in the past and especially the ones who haven’t made it out yet...you let us down! Shame on you. Throw the whole app-oligy away.

Snapchat had previously issued a statement to BBC apologizing for the ad, explaining that it was reviewed and approved in error because it violates their advertising guidelines.

So “approved in error” is the code now for “we think DV is funny if it can be monetized and we’re (kinda) sorry that we got called out.” Fuck that. That idea had to get through so many people who didn’t shut it down. I haven’t used snapchat in a year because it’s a snoozefest so at least they’re orchestrating their own demise at this point.
