Pussy Riot Member Hospitalized for Suspected Poisoning

Latest

On Wednesday, Russian media reported that Pyotr Verzilov, a member of the Russian protest group Pussy Riot, had been rushed to the toxicology unit of a Moscow hospital. His condition is critical and possibly the result of poisoning, according to the Associated Press.

Verzilov has reportedly been receiving emergency care since Tuesday evening. A report from Meduza, an online news source based in Riga, quoted fellow Pussy Riot member, Veronika Nikulshina, saying Verzilov is exhibiting a range of symptoms that include loss of eyesight and the ability to speak. ABC reports that the official Pussy Riot social media account posted a link to the story accompanied with the words “We think that he has been poisoned.”

Verzilov was one of four members of the group who ran only the field during the World Cup final in July wearing police uniforms. Nikulshina and Verzilov, along with the other activists, were jailed for 15 days as punishment for the stunt, which Pussy Riot said was a protest against human rights abuses in Russia.
