After McDreamy got the boot from Shondaland, Patrick Dempsey’s soul has been set free to gallivant around, wherever it may go. First up: the set of Bridget Jones’s Baby, the third film in the Bridget Jones franchise. Dempsey is set to join Renée Zellweger, who will reprise her role as Bridget Jones, and Colin Firth, who will return as Mark Darcy.
According to Deadline, the plot will be not be based on the novel, Mad About the Boy, the third Bridget Jones literary installment, but instead will be inspired by columns written by creator Helen Fielding. Though no details are yet available about Dempsey’s role, it’s possible he could be the new love rival to Firth’s character, since Hugh Grant decided to drop out of the film last fall.
Unfortunate news for Kara Brown: Ed Sheeran will also appear in the film, playing himself.
