Parkland Drama Club Students Crushed 'Seasons of Love' at the Tony Awards

Entertainment

The teens are better than us—this much we know. But if you need another reminder, here’s one: students from Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Drama Club lovingly brought down the house at the Tony Awards on Sunday night with an excellent rendition of the classic Rent song, “Seasons of Love.” There was nary a dry eye in the house.

If the Tony Awards’ goal was to make people both cry and feel inspired, “Seasons of Love” was a solid song choice.

Earlier in the night, the Tonys recognized Melody Herzfeld, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School drama teacher who saved the lives of 65 students during the February 14 shooting by barricading them in a closet.

Herzfeld said in her acceptance speech, “I’m overwhelmed. But I hope that this award will remind everyone of how vital and important arts education is to our kids. Drama, music, art, creative writing that’s how you make good citizens.”
