Orphaned Baby Rhino Thinks Grey Jeep Is His New Mom

If you needed a reason to cry, here’s one: a South African baby rhinoceros whose mother had been killed by poachers, saw a grey Jeep and tried to adopt it as his new mom :(.

According to a witness’s Facebook post via Metro, the orphaned rhino made his way to a tourist road. Because rhinos have poor eyesight, it makes sense that he probably thought the similar-colored car was another rhino. He then began to rub his body against the side of it, probably because he wanted a hug!

Later, a veterinarian tranquilized the animal, but he had a bad reaction to the drugs and stopped breathing. Luckily, they were able to resuscitate the little guy after three minutes. The rhino, who was given the name Donnie, now resides in a new home in South Africa’s Kruger National Park.
