One Day: Anne Hathaway Is Terribly British

Latest

Here’s a trailer for One Day, an adaptation of the much-loved David Nicholls tearjerker novel. The concept is that we see one day of each year that a pair of charming young Brits know each other, spanning some twenty-odd years.

So that’s all well and good, and look it’s Jim Sturgess who we like, same goes for Patricia Clarkson. But wait, who’s that new English actress there with the glasses and the curly ha- Oh god. It’s Anne Hathaway. Yup. And she’s doing an accent. Gruh. I know sometimes that my Anne Hathaway hectoring is a bit much, but you have to admit that she really does seem particularly grating in this, doesn’t she? I mean, not Love & Other Drugs grating, little can ever top that, but pretty darn close. I mean, were Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan, Rosamund Pike, Gemma Arterton, Emily Blunt and like any other young British actress busy? Hell, what about an Australian! Somebody, anybody else. Sigh.

That said, man does that cheesy OneRepublic song coupled with the swirling swell of time passing get me. Well done, trailer-makers. Well done indeed.
