Obama-Chimp Tea Partier Apologizes Again, Still Won't Resign

Marilyn Davenport, the Tea Partier who sent out an email with Obama's face superimposed on the body of a chimp, has issued a slightly more complete apology for her behavior:

To my fellow Americans and to everyone else who has seen this email I forwarded and was offended by my action, I humbly apologize and ask for your forgiveness of my unwise behavior. I say unwise because at the time I received and forwarded the email, I didn't stop to think about the historic implications and other examples of how this could be offensive.

However, she still refuses to resign, despite Republican party officials urging her to do so.

First of all, I want to make it clear that I was offended by Davenport's e-mail, and think both an apology and a resignation are in order. I do, however, have a general remark about apologies and fauxpologies...

"To my fellow Americans and to everyone else who has seen this email I forwarded and was offended by my action, I humbly apologize"

She apologizes to everyone who was offended. Not "if anyone was offended," which to me is the hallmark of a fauxpology. How do you apologize to people who were not offended? She admits she was unwise and didn't stop to think. To my mind, this is a real apology. What do the rest of you think?

That said, forwarding that email and "not stopping to think" are inexcusable, and she still needs to resign.
